A minimalist and pure aesthetic

Micamics was born from the meeting of two potters who perfected their techniques with Japanese master potters. We place great emphasis on simple, uncluttered forms – the objects we make are reduced to the essentials. Our ceramic vases, dishes and sculptures often have a minimalist appearance, and they exude an energy and emotional intensity that makes them very captivating. We make our ceramics in our studio according to our own ideas and designs, and we fire them using the raku technique in a wood-fired kiln.

The complex technique of raku

Raku is a ceramic firing technique that uses a high-temperature kiln, followed by rapid cooling by removing the piece from the kiln and placing it in a container filled with combustible materials such as sawdust, straw or paper. The thermal shock causes a chemical reaction that creates a unique glaze on the surface of the piece. This glaze is often irregular and can produce crackling effects, swirling patterns and shimmering colours. The raku firing process is complex and requires a great deal of experience and careful attention. Each piece requires special attention to create the desired effects.

Unique and random pieces

The ability to use this archaic firing method is an artistic experience that allows for the creation of unique vessel surfaces through random results. The special appeal of this technique lies in the fact that it is not reproducible and is very personal to each potter. Our style of ceramics is characterised by a great finesse in the pieces and often black and white work on subtle textures. We like to create organic shapes and play with contrasting textures to produce unique and stunning pieces.

MASTERCLASSES

We enjoy teaching our expertise in creating ceramic pieces. Our studio is a meeting place for art and ceramics lovers, where we share our passion for this fascinating technique with other budding potters and artists. That is why we regularly offer masterclasses in our workshops.
